When did boba come to Las Vegas?

Boba reached Las Vegas the same way it reached most of America: Taiwan invented the drink in the 1980s, Taiwanese immigrant communities carried it to the U.S. in the 1990s, and it put down roots wherever a Chinatown gave it a counter. In Las Vegas that counter appeared in 1998, three years after Chinatown Plaza opened on Spring Mountain Road — and the shop that poured it is still pouring.

  1. 1995

    Chinatown Plaza opens at 4205 Spring Mountain Road, anchoring a corridor of Asian businesses that will become the valley's food-and-tea spine.

  2. 1998

    No. 1 Boba Tea opens in Chinatown — the first bubble tea shop in Las Vegas, with a menu of 18 drinks. The original location still operates on the same block as the Plaza.

  3. 2005

    Amy Zhang Warthan takes over No. 1 Boba Tea and grows it from a single Chinatown counter to 13 locations across the valley, carrying boba far beyond Spring Mountain Road — today there are branches from North Las Vegas to Henderson. Local status check: another shop literally named itself “Not No. 1 Boba.”

  4. 2015

    The second wave arrives. Independents like Brew Tea Bar open with house-made pearls and a craft-tea pitch; it now runs five locations of its own.

  5. 2020s

    The scene spreads valley-wide. Pandemic-era openings like Pink Cactus Tea join Taiwanese chains landing their first Nevada outposts — CHICHA San Chen among them.

  6. 2026

    119 shops and counting. Our July 2026 sweep of the valley found 119 open boba shops across Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas — every one of them mapped on this site with hours from its public listing.

Where is the Las Vegas boba corridor?

Spring Mountain Road, west of the Strip. What started as one plaza in 1995 is now several blocks of Asian restaurants, markets, and tea counters, and it remains the densest boba stretch in Nevada: 23 of the valley's 119 shops sit within 1.5 miles of Chinatown Plaza. If you only have one night and one parking spot, this is the corridor — you can walk from the 1998 original to a dozen newer counters without moving the car.
